WATER, water everywhere.
My prayers for some rain were definitely answered but maybe I should have asked for the lottery numbers instead…
I would firstly like to extend a huge thank you to everyone that attended the Rixton Claypits work party.
Your efforts are making a huge difference, so to everyone that attended, kindly give yourselves a pat on the back! More work parties will be announced soon, so if you want to get involved watch this space.
Now that the days are getting shorter (and a lot colder), some of us might decide to stay indoors and wait for a while before fishing again.
Others might be checking this column/social media for some guidance or inspiration for their next outing.
With that in mind, your catch reports are always welcome, so please keep sending them in.
We can all learn something by sharing our experiences, and your good day today can be someone else's next week!
You can email your reports to secretary@warrington-anglers.org.uk or send me a message on 07384 564140.
Warrington Anglers' Association catch reports:
Andy Corr and Andy Donegan ventured out again for a day session at the Weaver Navigation.
They were well prepared for any type of weather but in anticipation of heavy rain they used an M56 ‘concrete umbrella’ as an additional cover - a decision they did not regret…
They managed to bag up on skimmers, with a net of 22lbs in total. All caught on red maggot presented over a bed of groundbait. Well done guys. Great to hear from you again.
On to the River Wyre now, where Joe Chappell grabbed his pike gear and went for a walk along the banks.
After a short stroll, using his rubber lure, he connected with something decent.
At first Joe thought it was a really nice pike, but to his surprise it wasn’t at all...
When it neared the net he was instead looking at a beautiful chub.
Joe quickly unhooked it from his single hook lure and released it back into the river.
Joe said he will be going back again to hopefully catch a pike, but he enjoyed the day regardless.

Lots of river reports this week, and onto the River Dane now.
Scott Corrin ventured out for a lure session, his choice being a 5cm floating salmon minnow with a single hook.
The river level was slightly higher than usual and the water was colored, probably due to all the rain washing down.
His second cast in the same spot netted him a large brown trout and further quality trout followed.
One of Scott Corrin's brown trout.
He landed a couple and lost a couple by the net. He said: “They love to jump out of the water and throw the hook.”
Eventually he hit something big and at first Scott thought it was a snag - but when it suddenly started to run, it was very clear he was onto something chunky...
After a decent fight, and when his catch came closer to the surface, he immediately knew it was something special - a 55cm long chub, the biggest he'd caught. Great result, congrats and well done Scott.
Anthony Higham’s report from the River Mersey match 21/09/2025:
The river level at the start of the match was 4.2 metres with a good flow and a lot of colour.
13 members took part.
Match reporter Anthony Higham aka ‘The king of the river’ won the match.
He drew peg 66 and fished groundbait feeder with double red maggot.
Anthony steadily built the swim up, and his first catch was an eel followed by 11 more.
Shortly after the skimmers and bream moved into his swim, and he bagged a couple for a winning weight of 12lbs 1oz 0drs.

Jimmy Byrne’s report from the Disabled and Over 60s match which took place at Trent and Mersey Billinge:
The weather was a lot better compared to last week.
An amazing 26 anglers participated.
Pinkie, bread and casters were the favorite baits.
Apart from odd gudgeon and perch it was almost an entirely roach-based day.
Alan Faulkner aka ‘big Al’ won the match with a weight of 8-13-0.
Match organiser Jimmy Byrne took second place with a weight of 8-6-5.
Third place was claimed by last week's winner Rod Fraser with weight 8-4-8.
Result:
1. A. Faulkner 8-13-0
2 J. Byrne 8-6-5
3 R. Fraser 8-4-8
The next match is to be held at Red Lane. Draw by Hough’s Bridge.
